Description
In 1942, the Women’s Training Scheme started. Young women, mostly from middle class backgrounds, learned to handle pairs of 72ft narrow boats with 50 tons of cargo. This book tells their stories through monologue, poetry and song lyrics, and reveals how they came to be known as ‘idle’ (when they clearly weren’t).
